Strategies and Rules of Online Red Dog |
Red Dog is a very popular poker game due to its entertaining ease during playing. It has many other names, including In-between, Ace-Deuce and Between the sheets. Red Dog played on a Blackjack sized table on which there has two betting spots marked "Bet" and "Raise".
In Red Dog Poker the value of number cards is at their face value, Jack counts 11, Queen 12, King 13 and Ace counts as 14. The suit is irrelevant. In the game, you start out with an opening chip placed and get 2 cards dealt. If the 2 cards are adjacent, it is a push and your chip will be returned to you. If there are 2 equal cards plus a 3rd matching card drawn, you win 11 to 1; otherwise if there comes a 3rd card with another number, it is a push. Once the 2 cards are neither adjacent nor equal, the spread is established. Spread is the number of cards whose value between the 2 cards (i.e. 3 and 5 have a spread of 1; 9 and a King have a spread of 3).
The goal of playing Red Dog Poker is to bet on the 3rd card by luck rather than much skill. That means if the first two cards dealt are a 4 and a 9, you will win when the 3 rd card is any of the numbers from 5 to 8, or you will lose.
Look over the mark delivered by the dealer which indicates the spread and the odds offers by the house on the table. The rest thing for you now is to decide from the options of "raise" (double) your bet or "call" (continue without raising). If you "raise" bet, the payouts for your winning hand are according to the payout table. If you win this hand without raising the bet you will get your original chips back.
The Payout Table:
Spread of One 5 to 1
Spread of Two 4 to 1
Spread of Three 2 to 1
Spread of Four - Eleven 1 to 1
Pair with a 3rd matching card 11 to 1
In the Red Dog Poker, the number of the joining players is not important. That is because all the participants in one game will win or lose at the same time. Only one strategy during the game is to make sound choice on "raise" or "call". According to statistics, the odds of winning a spread of 7 is around 54% and the odds of winning a spread of 11 is up to 84%. Based on the given odds, it seems much wiser for player to call unless the spread is 7 or even higher.
